US rig count climbs in October

Services giant Baker Hughes says numbers up since Septembers, but down year-on-year.

The average US rig count for October went up again for the fourth consecutive month, according to services giant Baker Hughes, despite numbers year-on-year continuing to be low.
 
The US saw a total rig count last month of 544, up 35 rigs from the 509 counted in September. The figure, however, was down by 247 units from the 791 counted in October 2015.
 
October was the fourth consecutive months since July that saw the number of rigs increase, with 509 rigs counted in September, which was in turn up by 28 rigs from the 481 counted in August.
 
The international rig count for October was 920, down by 14 rigs from the 934 counted in September, and by down 191 rigs from the 1111 counted in October last year.
 
Last month’s international offshore rig count was 200, which was down by 21 from the 221 counted in September. Figures were also down year-on-year by 70 from 270.
 
The average Canadian rig count last month was 156, up 15 from the 141 counted in September, and down 28 compared to last year’s 184 rigs counted.
 
Worldwide, the number of rigs was 1620, which was up by 36 units since September’s 1584 units counted, but down by 466 from the 2086 rigs counted in October 2015.
