The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) is getting a new exploration director, with a long-time Shell executive getting the nod.

Torgeir Stordal, who has most recently held a global role within resource evaluation at the Anglo-Dutch supermajor, is taking over from Sissel Eriksen who is leaving the NPD’s management team.

Fifty-five-year-old Stordal has worked at Shell since 1989, working in various roles as a geophysicist, geologist, and holding other management roles within the exploration department. From 2009 to 2013 he was exploration manager at Norske Shell.

Stordal has assumed the new post at the NPD from Friday.

Eriksen had served as the NPD’s exploration director since September 2007.
