Former ExxonMobil chief executive Rex Tillerson has touched down in Germany for his first official overseas trip as the new US Secretary of State. The Texan is attending the G-20 summit of world leaders in Bonn, which will run until Friday.

“While in Bonn, Secretary Tillerson will participate in several G-20 sessions as well as bilateral meetings,” the State Department said.

“Secretary Tillerson will also meet with counterparts from the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and United Nations to discuss the situation in Yemen.

It is also expected that Tillerson will meet with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, while his country’s stance on NATO is also likely to be a focus.

Tillerson has only recently been handed the Secretary of State position after being hand-picked for the job by new US President Donald Trump.
