Chinese government issues warning to Washington over combative stance on resource-rich region in simmering war of words: report.

China has reportedly fired off a warning to the new administration of US President Donald Trump over fresh criticism of its island-building in the resource-rich South China Sea in an escalating war of words between the two countries.
 
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has told Washington to “speak and act cautiously… to avoid harming the peace and stability of the South China Sea”, according to a Guardian report.
 
It comes amid international concerns over moves by China to create artificial islands in the disputed territorial waters that serve as a key trade route and are also believed to harbour significant hydrocarbon resources off the Spratly Islands, among other areas.
